The Players

Allen Glenn - Lead Vocals
I had always been involved in acting and music. From Kellogg's commercials in my childhood to finally getting a record deal after I moved to Minneapolis at age 21. I had a #2 song in Germany in 1995 which I recorded with Savannah Street Music and was a featured Artist on the "Sunset Music Band" CD, featuring Doc Severenson. I was fortunate enough to have also performed with: Brandy, BB King, Next, BeBe and CeCe Winans, Gladys Knight, Michael Bolton, Alexander O'Neil, Prince, and many others over the years, including The Good, the Bad and the Funky! After my Mother passed away from Cancer, I became interested in the medical field and earned a degree in Radiology while pursuing my love of music, which also keeps me very busy. Today, I find great joy in being able to play and gig with such a talented and fun group of guys like GBF!

Layne Bender - Tenor Sax
Wow !! Playing the Instrument and the music I fell in love with as a kid ! It’s been fifty years since my brother first played a Tower of Power record for me. When I heard the horn section and the screaming sax solos, I knew then I needed to do this. Maynard Ferguson, Buddy Rich , Chase, Chicago and numerous great saxophone players who inspired me, I’m so proud today of GBF, the guys in the band past and present and our long history of performing. I hope this journey continues for many more years. Lets bop until we drop !!

Josh May - Trumpet
Josh May is an up-and-coming trumpet player and arranger in the Twin Cities. Through his undergraduate studies in Music Performance and Jazz Studies at Bemidji State University, he had a month long residency with a fusion band in China, as well as a semester as a lead trumpet player for the Hochschule Luzern Universität Big Band in Lucerne, Switzerland. After Bemidji, he moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to complete a Masters in Jazz Studies at Louisiana State University, where he shared the stage with the likes of Wayne Bergeron, Bobby Shew, Peter Erskine, Diane Reeves, and the Temptations. Living in Louisiana, Josh has learned extensively about the culture of Brass Band Music, and brought that knowledge and skillset with him to the Twin Cities to become a regular performing member with both the Jack Brass Band, and McNasty Brass Band. Josh joined GBF officially as lead trumpet player in October 2022, and has since become co-arranger with our Musical Director, Brad Callahan. In 2021, he became head-arranger for a new band with GBF Guitarist, Will Hutchinson, and GBF Drummer, Dean White; the Drums of Navarone.

Will Glasper - Bass Guitar
I began playing bass guitar at the age of seventeen and my professional pursuit has taken me to London, Amsterdam, Germany and Scotland while performing with R&B national recording artist Alexander O'Neal and the House of Blues in Chicago with local act The Good, The Bad and The Funky (GBF). I have also played at the Minnesota State Fair, worked with Grammy Award winners Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and have performed live on The Late Show, Soul Train and at the world-famous Apollo Theatre in New York City. I've also recorded with Prince protege Tony Lemans at The Record Plant in San Francisco. Locally, I’m currently working with GBF, and I have been a member of several acts including Soulution, The Prophets of Soul, Stone Cold Blues and various artists that include guitarist Paul Holland, vocalist Ronn Easton and saxophonist Walter Chancellor. My motto is "it's all about the groove.” One of my favorite quotes is from Marcus Miller (one of my favorite bass players) who said, "it's what you don't play...that makes the groove real".

Will Hutchinson - Guitar
For the past 12 years, Will Hutchinson has held down the guitar chair for The Good, The Bad, and The Funky, delivering groove and breathing fire every time he hits the stage. A mainstay in Minnesota’s music scene, Will is one of the region’s most in-demand guitarists, lighting up stages with some of the hottest acts around. When he’s not funking it up with GBF, Will moonlights as a conga player in the Latin music circuit, playing with flair and Latin sabor! . Whether he's laying down a deep pocket or unleashing a searing solo, Will brings 100% pure passion to every note. His powerful right hand brings the funk rhythms to life, and his tasty chops ignite every performance. Add in his magnetic stage presence, and you've got a guitarist who doesn't just play the part—he puts on a show.
Will has a new band with GBF Drummer Dean White and GBF Trumpet Player Josh May called the Drums of Navarone.

Mark Moran - Keyboards
In 1987 I was sitting in my parents basement with my brother Tim, trying to come up with a name for a new 10-piece soul band we were putting together with Layne Bender and Jeff Fideler on a total whim. Something to please the guys in the band since there was no way the music public would get it at all. We wanted a BIG name, something based on the singer's name, Michael Jensen. Not much there until my brother thought about his middle name, Sterling, hmmm. We already wanted the "and the" part to be The Stud Brothers since stud was a catch phrase for cool waaaay back then. Mick Sterling and the Stud Brothers was born. We went from playing for free 6 Sunday's at Bunkers to almost having the fire marshall shut the place down with the huge crowds. That band is in the Mid-America Music Hall of Fame and you can read all about it in Mick's book. Now GBF's similar but I think closer to what we wanted all those years ago. Big and nasty trying to find a different spin on arrangements with great players and great guys from top to bottom. We're really on a roll right now. I hope you enjoy this. This is the best we can do!

Dean White - Drums
Dean earned a degree in music in the 80's and then moved out to LA to attend Musician's Institute. From there, a 1-year stint in the Legends In Concert show at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas. Next stop was Tokyo, Japan to play and record with Toshi Hinata. Since moving back to the Twin Cities he's played with the Autobody Experience, Diamond Awards orchestra, Hennessy Brothers Jazz (pals from MI 40 years ago), various projects with Nate from Willie's Guitars, and can be seen subbing for multiple big band ensembles (that sight reading comes in handy!). Current projects include the afroCuban influence Drums of Navarone, Larry Mcdonough Jazz Quartet (15 years running), and last but not least, the over-the-top experience that is GoodBadFunky!!
